Tero Saarinen, a world-renowned dance artist and choreographer from Finland, founded Tero Saarinen Company in 1996 after more than a decade of performing professionally as a soloist. His early career saw him shine in both Finland and on the internation stage – leading to him winning first prize in 1988 at the prestigious Concours International de Danse de Paris. Since founding the company, Saarinen has created tens of original works and earned a string of other major recognitions.

His latest creation delves into the music of Kaija Saariaho. In Study for Life, TSC dancers, musicians of the Het Muziek ensemble (previously Asko|Schönberg), Soprano Raquel Camarinha, and sound design from Tuomas Norvio all interweave with Saariaho’s compositions – bringing the nuanced and delicate world of works to life. Adding further elegance, the scenography has been put together by lighting and set designers Fabiana Piccioli and Sander Loonen, with costume design by Erika Turunen.

Before the performance, an introductory sound installation,To Water by Tuomas Norvio, is presented in the audience foyer. This installation too is supported by Genelec.

The world premiere of Study for Life took place at the Holland Festival in June 2025, followed by performances at Bregenzer Festspiele in July. The forthcoming performance season at Dance House Helsinki – from 28th February to 7th March 2026 – marks the creation’s Finnish premiere.
