Tonmeistertagung 2025 | Genelec Powers Immersive Audio Experience
Tonmeistertagung (TMT) remains one of Europe’s most influential gatherings for audio professionals, and for us, a key biennial event in Germany. The event is organised by the Verband Deutscher Tonmeister – the Association of German Sound Engineers. It’s a place where audio professionals come together from all sectors, including top German educational institutions contributing to both the scientific programme and artistic listening sessions.
This year, the event took place in Düsseldorf from 12–15 November. We hosted two fully equipped immersive listening rooms, each tailored to highlight different approaches to spatial audio monitoring. The big demo rooms offered a perfect setting to demonstrate to attendees how GLM, our calibration software, brings out the full potential of Smart Active Monitoring systems – from stereo to immersive – providing a neutral and balanced listening experience.
Of course, the undisputed star of the show was Genelec’s newly launched 8380A SAM Main Monitor – taking centre stage and showcased as part of our ongoing 8380A World Tour.
Both rooms were open for listening throughout the event, allowing participants to drop-in between scheduled talks and presentations. No matter how often we heard it, it was genuinely heart-warming to hear attendees share how much they enjoyed the listening sessions in our Genelec rooms. Feedback like this reassures us that we are moving in the right direction – continuing to push forward in audio innovation and technology.
Featuring emerging talent from leading music institutions such as UdK Berlin, HfM Detmold and MDW Vienna, our immersive rooms showcased student work ranging from spatial music mixes to experimental production projects – offering attendees a glimpse into new creative approaches. For us at Genelec, supporting these universities and the wider academic community is essential, as it helps to nurture the next generation of audio professionals, engineers, producers, composers and researchers who will shape the future of music production, immersive audio and acoustic design.
Genelec hosted a special live in Atmos performance by Emika – a British electronic music producer, composer, singer and sound designer known for her dark, atmospheric electronic sound that blends techno and classical influences with often ethereal vocals, giving attendees a rare chance to hear immersive music in real time.

Another standout presentation came from Justin Gray, Grammy nominated and a Juno Award–winning bassist, composer, producer, engineer and educator based in Toronto, Canada. Justin is deeply involved in immersive audio, and he showcased his cinematic album Immersed, which is composed and produced in Dolby Atmos. The project features 38 musicians from around the world and was crafted from the ground up specifically for immersive listening.

Other Genelec highlights included:
Introduction to the 8380A by Aki Mäkivirta (Chief Technology Officer) and Marcel Schechter (Senior Customer Experience Specialist). Multiple slots across the four days, giving attendees a technical walkthrough and guided listening of the 8380A’s coaxial driver technology.

Electronic Music in Dolby Atmos by Eric Horstmann (Regional Business Manager Marketing and Sales). Exploring creative workflows in electronic and spatial music production.

Immersive Studio Design talk by Eric Horstmann. How to build an immersive studio, covering both technical and acoustic considerations.
